This is one of the earliest pictures I have of Herrington with scottish fold ears. I was inspired by the cat in this video. Her name is Moo!

Edgy Poniko
Not that it matters but I think I had a speedpaint video of this one. RIP my old Youtube channel, we hardly knew ye.
If I'm being honest I don't think this looks too bad, considering my skill level at the time.

Eyepatch appreciation post
Back in middle school I had a weird obsession (read: inside joke with myself) with eyepatches. To be fair, eyepatches are cool.
All I want is to be able to draw stuff in OekakiBBS again, but I don't think that's around anymore. Farewell to a glorious bygone era!

Herringtons galore
Mara (Herrington) in OekakiBBS. I still really like this one because of the colors, and the drawing is surprisingly not too bad.
Does anybody remember Tegaki E? Is that still around? That was a tough interface to get used to, but other people made some absolute masterpieces despite it.
Trying out different coloring and shading. I like how they're all fun and cute, and then there's the third one.

Finding my art style: 2008
Things I miss about my art in 2008
I am still finding my art style which has changed in all sorts of ways over time. I want to remember what I like about my old art style that I can re-incorporate.
I'm only focusing on things that I like about the art style that I want to bring back. Mistakes will only be addressed if there's something I can learn from it.
Art style characteristics
Vivid tint under shading
Careful attention to detail
Enjoying the the novelty of Paint Tool SAI
Blending technique and dramatic shading
Tiny highlights
- Pale pastel colors. A warm tint
- Crisp but soft shading

- Emily (top center)
- Unknown (center) I have no idea who this girl is.
- Mo (girl in black dress) Another unused OC
- Weston (blond guy)
- Crisp distinct shading for the hair
- Very subtle soft highlights
- Minimal shading for the skin
- Neutral pastel color choice

Shigofumika
Fanart from an obscure anime called Shigofumi. It aired back in 2008. The character design was done by Kohaku Kuroboshi who is more known for his work on Kino's Journey. I fell in love with Fumika's character design especially! She is very cool and collected, but can still get flustered and it's adorable. I would totally love to draw her again someday.

Mara
A drawing of Mara. I recorded a speedpaint of this and posted it to my original Youtube channel, which has sadly been lost after being banned in 2010. Still bummed about some of the stuff I had that I'll never get back. Oh well.
At least I still have this gem of a comment that I dug up in my old email, back when Youtube emailed you notifs about new activity on your videos. Early 2000s Youtube was the best Youtube. Everything about this is such a time capsule and I love it. That old 3D Youtube logo and slogan. Calling it "SAI PAINTER". SD = super deformed.
Was this comment rude and uncalled for? Yes. Were they right? Also yes. Back then, we could still upvote/downvote comments. If your opinion was shit, other people would let you know. It warmed my heart to see this person's comment at -6 points. Now you can't even see dislikes on Youtube videos unless you have a browser extension. I am still so mad about that. #firstworldproblems

Mara and Mr Cass, circa 2008
If you're wondering what's going on in this picture, that's a great question! I don't know either. The more I look at this the less it makes sense. Why is Mara holding her head? Why are there dried blood stains on her shirt? Why does Mr Cass have a ring with Hungarian writing on it? I don't even know Hungarian!
I had recently made the switch from Photoshop to SAI for all my digital art needs, so the novelty was still fresh. I still think SAI is superior to Photoshop when it comes to digital art, despite its limited features. Everything, from the interface to the painting tools just feels so much smoother.
Oh hey, I still have the sketch!
Maybe if I'm lucky the speedpaint video is still somewhere out there. Vintage!

Emo Link
God this one is embarrassing. I think this was my very first time participating in an art gift exchange on Deviantart. My recipient requested Link and Midna from Twilight Princess. His expression is an accurate depiction of how my recipient must have felt when they saw this. Plz forgive me. At least it was fun to color!
Also, I finally got around to playing this game in 2021. Better late than never, right?
